Unfortunately, they did actually modernize the interface in CATIA v6. Get rid of the ugly gray, make some more squares into rounded corners, have some more useful / nonintrusive hover menus, yeah. I'd agree with you that the interface is a bit dated. Going by your description I'd say you're using CATIA v5. The only "problem" I had was when, for a certain period, I had to use simultaneously both CATIA V5 and Siemens NX and I constantly fucked up with the mouse commands because they are almost completely different. Furthermore, besides the classic CATIA V* softwares, there are some newer (and with fancier UI but sometimes less capable) softwares softwares like SOLIDWORKS & co.įrom what I recall, some industries stick to the old CATIA because it was a pioneer in surfaces design and, since it is very expensive and problematic to completely change a CAD in a company, they stuck with it.Īnd yes, you'll get used to anything. The more recent the generation (so the "v"), you get instead a big step up in the UI, which is kinda in line with the times when it was first realized. So you have v4, v5, v6 (and whatever other number is available) which are basically the "generations", and then for each generation you get a release more or less every year (so, v5 2019, v6 2019 and so on), which are basically fixes and small upgrades with no substantial variation of the UI. LearnEngineering: Learn & discuss engineering conceptsĪs someone else already said, and assuming that you are talking about CATIA V5, it is weirdly "old looking" because Dassault (I guess for continuity issues and under requests from big clients) basically carries on different "versions" of their CADs in parallel.USACE: United States Army Corps of Engineers.EngineeringStudents: For wee engineerlings./u/_wampa_stompa: Sheet metal, Structural, Aerodynamics (AE)ĭirectory of Useful Subreddits Engineering Fields./u/unbelieverben: Plastics/Molding (CHE), Glass (Display/Automotive)./u/Saryu: IP Video Distribution (EE/SE)./u/Roughneck16: Military Engineering (CE)./u/rockitscyentist: Control Systems (AE)./u/occamman: Medical Device Development (SysE)./u/lafleur818: Environmental/Wastewater./u/internationengineer: MEP Design (ME)./u/capitalmonks Electrical Power Systems (EE).
